Duchesse lace is a timeless classic in any wardrobe—where the elegance of its design adds a unique beauty that’s hard to come by. Unfortunately, a momentary misstep applying your lipstick can spell disaster if it lands on your delicate Duchesse lace. Don't worry! With just a few simple steps you can clean up the mess and save your favorite garment.

What You’ll Need

  • Butter knife
  • Ice cubes
  • Laundry detergent
  • Clean white cloth
  • Cotton swab

Steps to Remove the Stain

  1. Scrape off the excess lipstick with a butter knife. Don't scrub or press hard as this could damage your lace.
  2. Place an ice cube on the stain and hold it there for a few minutes. This will help freeze stain, making it easier to remove.
  3. Turn the lace fabric inside out and place in a solution of cold water and laundry detergent. Use enough laundry detergent to make a soapy paste at the stain.
  4. Soak the lace for about 5 minutes, agitating every so often.
  5. Rinse lace with cool water to remove the detergent.
  6. Pat dry with a clean white cloth.
  7. If the stain still remains, dip a cotton swab into rubbing alcohol and gently dab at the stain until it disappears.
  8. Let lace air dry before wearing again—or washing in the machine if the care instructions for your lace allows.

If you follow these steps carefully, you can restore your favorite garment back to its original pristine condition. And next time you apply your makeup, make sure to keep it away from your precious Duchesse lace!
