When it comes to removing lipstick stains from clothes, prevention is always better than cure. If possible, try to avoid wearing lipstick when dressed in your Dolce & Gabbana outfit – or at least take precautionary measures such as blotting off excess lipstick with a tissue before it can leave a mark.

But sometimes, despite your efforts, lipstick stains still make their way into the fabric. The good news is that these stains can be removed in several ways, depending on the type of fabric involved.

Removing Lipstick Stains from Cotton and Polyester

A lipstick stain on cotton and polyester clothes can be effectively removed with the help of ammonia. Start by dabbing a cloth into a solution of one part water and one part ammonia. Don’t rub the cloth onto the fabric too hard – dab lightly or you may spread the stain instead of removing it.

Afterward, rinse affected area with a wet cloth and let it air dry. If the stain remains, repeat the process until it disappears. Don’t forget to rinse the fabric thoroughly with water after each attempt.

Removing Lipstick Stains from Silk and Wool

Silk and wool clothes require an oil-based cleaner to remove lipstick stains. Begin by rubbing a mild soap onto the stain and letting it sit for about five minutes. Next, apply a small amount of baby oil using a cotton ball, then use another cloth to remove the oil.

Finally, rinse fabric in lukewarm water and add a few drops of white vinegar, which helps to break down the lipstick residue. Let the fabric air dry and check stain. If necessary, repeat the steps until the lipstick stain disappears completely.

Removing Lipstick Stains from Leather

For leather clothes, start by gently dabbing affected area with a soft, damp cloth. Then apply a dollop of saddle soap or leather cleaner on the cloth and continue gently dabbing stain. Let the cleaner sit for a few minutes before wiping it off with a clean, damp cloth.

Remember to only use a small amount of cleaner and never rub it on the fabric, as this could damage the leather. Repeat the process until stain has been lifted, then let the fabric air dry.
