One on the most delicate fabrics is Carrickmacross lace, which is a handmade form of Irish lace, but even the best care won’t guarantee it will never get stained. Lipstick stains have been known to notoriously set in quickly, and if treated improperly, can create a much larger problem. To remove lipstick from Carrickmacross lace, here are some tips:

  • Gently blot the area with a towel or a clean damp cloth. This will help soak up any excess lipstick without smearing it further.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon of laundry detergent with 2 cups of cold water in a bowl. Place the lace in the mixture and agitate gently for about 5 minutes.
  • Rinse lace with cold water, then launder according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Air dry or place the lace on a flat, white towel and press lightly with a warm iron, if necessary.

If stain persists, try following steps:

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of sodium perborate powder with 2 teaspoons of warm water.
  • Apply directly onto the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
  • Rinse with cold water and wash as above.

Carrickmacross lace is a beautiful fabric, and stains don't have to ruin it forever. With right cleaning methods, lipstick stains can be removed with ease.
