Materials Needed

  • Dishwashing detergent
  • Oxygen bleach
  • Clean white cloth
  • Iron

Steps to Remove Lipstick Stains

  1. Mix together a gallon of warm water and a tablespoon of dishwashing detergent. Soak the stained area of clothing for thirty minutes.
  2. Prepare a solution of one cup of oxygen bleach to one gallon of warm water. Soak the clothing for an additional thirty minutes.
  3. Flush the stain with cold water. Gently scrub the fabric with a clean, white cloth to remove any remaining residue.
  4. Allow the clothing to air dry. Once dry, inspect the garment for any remaining stains. If stains are still present, prepare another solution of oxygen bleach as before and soak the garment again.
  5. Run an iron over the fabric. This will help set the stain and ensure that it does not reappear.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to use a very mild detergent or a special cleaning product that is designed for fabrics.
  • Avoid using hot water, as this can cause the stain to set further into the fabric.
  • Do not rub or scrub the fabric too vigorously, as this may damage the material.
  • Be sure to read and follow the care instructions on the clothing label.
