When it comes to removing lipstick stains from belts, your best bet is to use an alkyl solution. This type of solution refers to compounds containing long-chain hydrocarbon groups that can be used to dissolve grease and oil. Alkyl solutions also break up molecules in the lipstick and make stain easier to remove. Here are the steps for using an alkyl solution to clean a lipstick stain from a belt:
First, mix together one tablespoon of an alkyl-based solvent with two tablespoons of water. If you don't have access to an alkyl-based solvent, rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover will do the trick as well. Make sure to wear gloves while handling any of these solutions, as they can be quite toxic.
Using a clean rag or sponge, apply the solution to the stained area. Be sure to use gentle pressure when scrubbing the affected area to avoid damaging the belt. Allow the solution to sit on the stain for 10-15 minutes.
Once the solution has had time to work its magic, rinse the belt with cold water. If stain persists, repeat step 2 and allow the solution to sit for another 5-10 minutes before rinsing again. Once the stain is removed, hang the belt up to dry.
