Start by blotting away any excess lipstick using a cloth or paper towel. Take care not to spread stain by using a light dabbing motion rather than rubbing it into the fabric.
You can apply a stain remover designed specifically for ball gowns or use a mild detergent dissolved in water. If stain is old, try soaking the dress overnight in a bowl of water with a few drops of white vinegar.
Once the stain remover has had time to work, rinse the gown with cold water and then gently launder it with mild detergent, according to the fabric's instructions. Avoid using very hot water or dry cleaning, as this can cause the stain to set in.
If you still see traces of stain, rinse the area with a diluted solution of white vinegar and warm water, taking care not to let the solution touch the rest of the fabric.
Lastly, hang the gown to air dry and inspect it for any remaining trace of the stain. If traces linger, repeat the above steps until the stain is no more!
Lipstick stains can be difficult to remove from any fabric, but following these steps can help you get rid of them from a ball gown quickly and safely.
