Lipstick stains seem to appear out of nowhere yet they can be difficult to remove if you don't know how. Depending on the material, it may seem impossible to get that lipstick off. Here are a few tips for removing lipstick stains from accessories based on the material item is made of:

Fabric and Cloth Accessories

  • Dab the stain with a damp cloth. Start from the outside and work your way in towards the center to prevent the stain from spreading.
  • Mix one tablespoon of liquid detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar in two cups of lukewarm water.
  • Apply the solution to the area gently and rub with a soft cloth.
  • Rinse the fabric with cold water.
  • Repeat as needed and rinse with cold water after each attempt.

Leather Accessories

  • First, scoop up any excess lipstick with a tissue.
  • Using a soft cloth and a leather cleaner, gently rub stain in a circular motion.
  • Blot the leather dry with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Apply leather conditioner with a soft cloth.
  • After conditioner has dried, buff the leather with a soft brush.

Metal Accessories

  • Mix equal parts warm water and dish soap in a bowl.
  • Dampen a cleaning cloth or sponge with solution.
  • Gently rub the metal surface in a circular motion.
  • Rinse the metal with warm water and dry with a clean cloth.
  • Repeat as needed until the stain is gone.

Other Materials

For other materials, such as plastic, polyester, silk, or acrylic, you may need to use a specialized cleaning solution. Always follow manufacturer’s instructions for best results.

Remember: You should always test a cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area before applying it to the entire surface.
