Ketchup doesn't have to be the end of a beloved piece of clothing. The first step is to act quickly. The longer you let the ketchup sit, the harder it is to get out. Use a paper towel to blot the area gently and absorb as much of the ketchup as possible. Do not rub the fabric as this can set the stain.
Mix together ¼ tsp. of a gentle detergent with 1 cup of cold water. Dip a clean white cloth or toothbrush into the solution and dab it onto the stained area. Avoid rubbing the fabric while cleaning as this can cause the stain to spread.
Let the solution sit on the fabric for several minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. Work from inside of fabric outwards so that the stain is not spread further. Continue dabbing and rinsing until the ketchup is removed.
If the stain is still visible after the initial attempt at cleaning, repeat steps 2 and 3 as needed. For particularly stubborn stains, mix equal parts vinegar and cold water and follow the same cleaning steps.
Once the stain is gone, lay the item flat or hang it up to dry. Avoid placing the clothing in direct sunlight or a hot dryer as this can cause stain to set. After the item is dry, inspect it to make sure the stain is completely gone.
With these simple steps, you can easily remove ketchup stains from wool. Take action quickly and consider repeating the cleaning process if needed. While these tips are helpful in removing stains, always be sure to check the care label and follow any recommended cleaning instructions.
