Easily Remove Ketchup Stains from Taffeta with These Simple Steps

Ketchup stains can be a tricky thing to remove from taffeta, but with the right approach and proper cleaning tools you can be sure to get it out in no time.

Step 1: Scrape the area

Start by scraping off excess ketchup from stained area. Use a dull butter knife or a spoon to try and lift off as much of the mess as possible.

Step 2: Apply a Stain Remover

Once you have scraped away the stain, apply a small amount of a stain remover onto the affected area. Be sure to read the instructions on the product to make sure it’s safe for use on taffeta.

Step 3: Rinse the Area

Then rinse area with cold water until stain remover is completely lifted off of the fabric.

Step 4: Use a Mild Detergent

Fill a washing basin with lukewarm water and add a couple drops of a mild detergent into the solution. Then submerge the stained area of the fabric and lightly rub area to help loosen ketchup stain. Lastly, rinse off the area with cold water and repeat the process if necessary.

Step 5: Air Dry

Finally, air dry the area outdoors or hang the garment up in a well-ventilated area.

Additional Tips

  • Always test any stain remover product on a small inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn’t damage the fabric.
  • If the ketchup stain remains after the above steps, then try soaking the garment in cold water overnight, along with some liquid laundry detergent.
  • For extra stubborn stains, you may need to take the garment to a professional dry cleaner.
