Treat the Stain Immediately

When it comes to removing a ketchup stain, the quicker you act, the easier it is to remove. Before you do anything else, scrape off any remaining ketchup with a butter knife or spoon. Be sure not to rub or press the fabric, as this could push the ketchup further into the fabric.

Dry Cleaning

If your dress is labeled “dry clean only”, it’s best to take it to a professional dry cleaner. Dry cleaners have experience and access to special cleaning agents that can safely remove hard-to-treat stains such as a ketchup stain.

Pre-treatment Solution

Opting for a pre-treatment solution is a great way to attack the ketchup stain. Pre-treatment solutions are available at most local supermarkets, and work by breaking down the ketchup molecules. To use a pre-treatment solution, simply apply solution directly to the ketchup stain, wait a few minutes for it to work, and then launder your dress as usual.

Lemon Juice and Table Salt

If you don’t have access to pre-treatment solution, you can make your own stain-removing concoction with lemon juice and table salt. Start by mixing equal parts lemon juice and table salt until the salt is completely dissolved. Apply this mixture directly to the stain and allow it to sit for around an hour. After the hour is up, rinse the sundress with cold water, and then launder as usual.

Vinegar Solution

For tough stains, you may need to go a step further and create a vinegar solution. Start by mixing one-part white vinegar with two-parts cold water. Soak the ketchup-stained area in this solution for around 30 minutes. Then, rinse the sundress with cold water and launder as usual.

Other Stains

In addition to ketchup stains, you may also need to remove other types of stains from your sundress, such as grease or coffee stains. For these types of stains, try rewashing the dress with a detergent that contains enzymes. The enzymes will break down the stain molecules, making them easier to remove from the fabric.

Conclusion

While ketchup stains on a sundress may seem like a difficult task, with a few easy tips and some quick action, you can easily remove stain and restore your dress to its former glory.
