Fill up a sink, basin, or bucket with lukewarm water and a few drops of laundry detergent. Immerse socks in the soapy water and lightly agitate the fabric with your hands for around five minutes.
Carefully remove the socks from the soapy water and rinse them under cool running water. Then, using a clean, white cloth, dab away as much of the excess moisture and ketchup as possible. Work in an outward fashion from the stain to prevent it from spreading.
Spray pre-treatments designed specifically for removing stubborn ketchup stains onto the back of the socks. Let it sit for a few minutes to give product time to penetrate the fibers in the fabric. If you don't have a ketchup stain remover, white vinegar and baking soda can also be effective in removing these types of stains.
Put your stained socks into washing machine along with other items you need to wash. Select the coldest temperature that's suitable for the fabric type and add half of amount of detergent that you would usually use. Start the cycle and take socks out once it has finished.
If the stain is still visible, then repeat the entire process until it has completely disappeared. When you are satisfied with the results, hang the socks up to dry.
Ketchup stains on your socks can be annoying, but getting rid of them doesn't have to be difficult. The five steps outlined above should help you remove those pesky tomato-based stains with relative ease.
