The very first thing you should do when you notice a ketchup stain on your silk dupioni is act quickly! Take a cloth or paper towel and blot the stain gently. Do not rub or scrub the fabric, as this could permanently damage it. Instead, just dab at the stain until it appears to have been absorbed.
Next, create a mixture of detergent and water. Dissolve a small amount of your preferred laundry detergent into a bowl of warm water. You don’t need to use a lot, just enough to create a soapy solution.
Gently dip the stained area of your silk dupioni into detergent and water solution. Allow it to soak for approximately 10 minutes. This will help to loosen any debris that might be caught in the fibers of the fabric. Be sure to check the fabric periodically during the soaking process to make sure that the stain is not getting darker.
Once you’ve allowed silk dupioni to soak for a few minutes, rinse it with cold water and then air dry. The stain should be gone! If the stain persists, you may need to repeat above steps. You may also want to consider using a specialized stain remover on the fabric.
