Using a clean cloth or paper towel, gently blot at the sauce stain. Do not rub the stain as this could spread it and make it larger. Keep repeating this step until most of the ketchup has been removed.
Next, use a damp cloth and wipe area with warm water. Be sure to rinse the cloth in warm water between wipes to remove any ketchup residue. Continue wiping until all of the ketchup is gone.
If ketchup stain persists, mix a small amount of mild soap with warm water and wipe the area again. Rinse with plain warm water when finished.
Once the ketchup has been removed, apply a stain remover such as Shout or OxiClean to the area. These products are designed to lift and remove stubborn stains from fabric. Follow the instructions on the packaging. After applying the stain remover, let it sit for a few minutes before wiping with a damp cloth.
Once the stain is gone, wash the shoes according to the care instructions. For delicate fabrics, dry cleaning is recommended. Allow the shoes to air dry completely before using them again.
Ketchup spills are inevitable, but luckily there’s an easy way to remove the stains from your shoes. By following the five steps above, you can quickly and easily get rid of ketchup stains without damaging your favorite pair of shoes.
