Shantung fabric is a high-end, luxurious fabric that is used in a variety of clothing, drapery, and upholstery. Because of its texture, ketchup stains can easily become embedded in the fibers, making it difficult to clean.
To start, you’ll want to scrape off any excess ketchup with a butter knife or other blunt utensil. Lay fabric flat on a table or countertop and gently scrape away any solid bits of ketchup. This will prevent the ketchup from further embedding into the fabric and make it easier to remove.
Next, pre-treat stained area by dabbing it with a wet cloth or sponge. This will help to loosen ketchup further so it can be more easily removed. If you have a spot cleaning solution, such as a carpet cleaner, you can use this instead for even better results.
After pre-treating the stain, you’ll want to wash the fabric to remove ketchup completely. It’s best to use a mild detergent and cold water as hot water can cause the stain to set in further. Gently rub stained area with the detergent and then rinse it with cold water.
Once fabric has been washed, it’s time to dry it. It’s important not to dry the fabric in a dryer as this can set the stain in permanently. Instead, lay the fabric flat on a towel and allow it to air dry at room temperature.
By following these simple steps, you should be able to remove ketchup stains from shantung fabric without too much difficulty. While it may take some effort and patience, the end result is worth it for having stain-free, beautiful shantung fabric.
