Before you try any cleaning solution, take a paper towel or cloth and blot up as much of the ketchup as possible. Press firmly on the stain and rotate the cloth or towel each time so you don’t spread the stain. Keep doing this until no more ketchup can be blotted up.
Once you’ve blotted away as much of the ketchup stain as possible, it’s time to apply a gentle cleaner to remove the residue. For this, you can use a mild laundry detergent, a mixture of water and white vinegar or a commercial spot-cleaning product. Test the cleaner on an inconspicuous part of the scarf first to make sure it doesn’t damage the fabric.
Dampen a clean cloth with cleaner of your choice and dab it onto the stain.
Using a soft-bristled toothbrush, gently brush detergent into the stain, taking care not to rub too hard. This will help to loosen and lift the ketchup away from the fabric.
After you’ve brushed away the detergent and stain, rinse away the detergent using a damp cloth. Make sure you rinse thoroughly so that no residue is left behind.
Once you’ve removed all the detergent and stain, it’s time to launder the scarf as usual. Be sure to check the label and follow the instructions for the appropriate water temperature and drying procedure.
