As soon as you notice the stain, take some paper towels or an old cloth and gently blot at the stained area. Do not rub, as this could make the stain spread further. Blotting will help lift some of the oil from the ketchup and prevent it from settling deeper into material.
Create a cleaning solution by combining detergent (a dish soap or laundry detergent is best) and warm water. Put this solution directly onto the stain and work it into the fabric using a soft bristled brush. Let the solution sit for a few minutes before rinsing it out with cold water.
If the stain does not come out after pre-treating it, try soaking the sarong in a solution of OxiClean and warm water. Make sure that the solution completely covers the stained area and let it soak for around 30 minutes. After the time has passed, rinse the fabric with cold water until all of the residue is gone.
Laundering the sarong is final step in removing ketchup stain. If the stain is still visible, add a small amount of chlorine bleach to the wash cycle and check the fabric after washing. Once the stain is gone, hang the sarong out to dry.
