Step 1: Blot with a Clean Cloth

The first step is to remove as much of the ketchup as possible. To do so, use a clean white cloth and gently blot at the stain. Don't rub or scrub; this can actually spread the stain further.

Step 2: Make a Detergent Solution

In a bowl, mix together:

  • 1 tablespoon of detergent per 1 quart (1 liter) of water

You can also add in a few drops of white vinegar or a teaspoon of ammonia to help fight the stain.

Step 3: Apply the Solution to the Stain

Using either a sponge or cotton swab, lightly apply the detergent solution to the stain, being sure not to scrub or rub it.

Step 4: Rinse with Cool Water

After applying the detergent solution, rinse off the stained area with cold water.

Step 5: Dry with a Towel

Gently pat the area dry with a clean, dry towel. Take care not to rub the stain, or you may wind up spreading it further.

Step 6: Repeat As Needed

If stain isn't completely gone, you can repeat these steps as necessary.
