Ketchup stains are one of the most common types of stain. If not treated properly, they can quickly set into the garment and become permanent. To make sure this doesn’t happen to your Ralph Lauren clothing, here’s a quick and easy guide to cleaning ketchup stains.

Step 1: Act Quickly

The key to removing ketchup stains is speed. As soon as you notice the stain, blot it with a paper towel and absorb as much of the greasy liquid as possible. Don’t rub or scrub fabric, as this can just push the stain further into the material.

Step 2: Pretreat the Stain

Once you’ve removed as much of the excess ketchup as possible, pretreat the area with a stain remover and leave for around half an hour. This will give the solution time to break down the stain and make it easier to remove later.

Step 3: Rinse the Fabric

Using cold water, rinse the area where stain was located. This should remove any remaining residue from the pretreatment. If there is still some discolouring, repeat steps two and three until the stain has faded.

Step 4: Wash the Garment

Finally, wash your garment according to the care instructions on the label. Use a mild detergent and check that stain has been completely removed before drying the item. If not, repeat the process until it is gone.
