When you're out and about in the rain, the last thing you want is an unexpected ketchup stain to ruin your raincoat. But when it happens, don't panic! Here are 7 simple steps to help get that ketchup stain out of your raincoat.
- Remove as much of the ketchup as possible. Use a spoon or a butter knife to scrape off any excess before doing anything else.
- Soak up the remainder of the ketchup with paper towels. Lay the paper towel over the stain and press gently.
- Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with two cups of cool water. Dip a clean rag into the mixture and sponge affected area.
- Rinse the area with distilled water (a gentle rinse) and blot dry with a clean cloth.
- If the stain persists, mix 4 tablespoons of white vinegar with ½ cup of warm water. Sponge the solution onto the affected area. Rinse again with cool water and then blot dry.
- Once the stain has been successfully removed, spot test an area for colorfastness. To do so, dab a small amount of detergent on an area of your raincoat and let it sit for 10 minutes. If the fabric does not fade, proceed.
- If needed, use a laundry pre-treatment product like Tide® Pre-treat-Stain Remover to get out any remaining residue. Apply directly to the affected area and rub it in lightly. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing with cool water and blotting dry.
And there you have it - easy, effective solutions to ketchup stains on your raincoat! With a little bit of work, you can get your raincoat back to its pristine condition.
