When dealing with ketchup stains on fabrics like peau de soie, it's important to act quickly. The quicker you get to a stain, the more likely you're going to be able to remove it. The first step is to soak up any excess ketchup. You can use a paper towel or a rag and dab at stain.
The next step is to pre-treat the stain. You can do this by either creating a paste using baking soda and water, or combining a laundry detergent with hydrogen peroxide. Once the paste is created, apply it directly to the stain and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes. After that, rinse it off with cold water.
Once the paste is fully rinsed off, its time to work on the stain itself. For this, you'll need a spot cleaner like a carpet cleaner or a shampoo. Make sure to follow the instructions on the product before applying it. Work the product into the stain until it lifts. Then blot area with a cloth to lift the stain. If necessary, repeat this step until the stain is completely gone.
If stain still isn't gone after that, take fabric to a professional dry cleaner who will more than likely be able to help. If all else fails, treat the area with an enzyme-based stain remover. This will help break down ketchup molecules and lift the stain.
With a few simple steps, you can have your peau de soie looking good as new!
