What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Water
  • Borax
  • Baking soda
  • Dish soap
  • Paper Towels

Step One: Blot the Stain

Using a paper towel or cloth, dab the area to absorb as much of the stain as possible. Do not rub it as this will just spread the stain.

Step Two: Create a Cleaning Solution

In a bowl, mix 1/4 cup white vinegar, 1/4 cup Borax, 4 cups of warm water and a small squirt of dish soap. Stir until Borax is completely dissolved.

Step Three: Pre-Treat Stain

Apply the cleaning solution directly to the stained area and let it sit for a few minutes. This will help loosen the stain and make it easier to remove.

Step Four: Blot with Clean Water

Using a clean towel, begin blotting the stained area with clean water. This will help rinse away the cleaner and any remnants of the ketchup stain.

Step Five: Spray with Baking Soda

Sprinkle baking soda over the affected area and allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes. This will help absorb any remaining moisture.

Step Six: Vacuum the Area

Using vacuum attachment, carefully remove the baking soda from the mattress. This will help prevent any remaining residue from attracting dirt or dust.

Step Seven: Repeat If Necessary

If the stain persists, repeat steps two through six. If stain still remains after a few tries, it may be time to call a professional cleaner.

Conclusion

Ketchup stains can seem daunting, but with the right materials and techniques, removing them from your mattress is a simple process. With the help of these steps, you can restore your mattress to its original condition and keep it looking and smelling great.
