Steps to Clean Ketchup from Cloth Masks
- As soon as possible, remove your mask and place it in a sink filled with lukewarm water.
- 2–3 drops of liquid laundry detergent should do the trick. Gently scrub the ketchup stain with a toothbrush or paper towel.
- Once the stain has been removed, rinse mask thoroughly with water.
- Put your clean, ketchup-free mask into the washing machine with laundry detergent and the rest of your clothes on a gentle cycle.
- Tumble dry the mask on low heat.
Tips for Removing Ketchup Stains from Cloth Masks
- Avoid rubbing the stain when dealing with a delicately woven fabric like a cloth mask – this can cause it to weaken.
- Pre-treating the stain with a laundry pre-treatment product can help to ensure that stain comes out more easily in the wash.
- For best results, use color-safe bleach in the washing machine as well as laundry detergent.
- If you're dealing with a particularly stubborn stain, soaking mask in warm water and laundry detergent overnight can work wonders.
Using a Homemade Ketchup Stain Remover on Cloth Masks
- Make a paste by mixing baking soda and water together in a bowl.
- Rub the paste onto the ketchup stain until a thick layer is covering it.
- Gently rub the paste into the fabric with a damp cloth or sponge.
- Let the paste sit on fabric for at least 30 minutes.
- Once you've let it sit, rinse mask thoroughly with cold water.
- Put the mask in washing machine and wash it on a gentle cycle with laundry detergent.
- Let the mask dry on a low heat in the tumble dryer.
