The first step in getting rid of a ketchup stain is to remove as much of the residue as possible – gently scrape off any excess with a flat-edged object like a butter knife or spoon. Then use a mild soap and lukewarm water to create suds. Dip a damp cloth into the suds and gently scrub the stained area until the ketchup is gone. You can also try adding baking soda to the cloth to help remove the stain. Rinse off the soap, and if the stain still remains, add a few drops of white vinegar to cloth and try again.
If the ketchup stain won’t come off with these steps, then it’s time to break out the bleach! Mix a solution of one teaspoon bleach to two cups warm water, apply it to the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse well and you should be good to go! Make sure you rinse thoroughly to make sure all the bleach is removed before you use the utensil again.
For those tough ketchup stains that just won’t budge, you can always try using a cleaner specifically designed for removing tough stains from kitchen items. Just be sure to follow the directions and warnings on the package.
