When it comes to food stains, ketchup can be one of the most difficult types of stains to remove from clothing. The tomato-sauce based condiment can leave behind an unsightly blotchy red stain that won’t come out easily. Fortunately, with some simple methods, you can banish those pesky ketchup stains from your jumpers in no time.
The first step is to blot ketchup stain as soon as possible. Use a damp cloth or towel to absorb as much of the stain as possible. Blot gently around the edges of stained area to prevent the stain from spreading. Do not rub the stain, as this may cause it to set further into the fabric.
Next, you’ll need to apply a detergent solution to the stained area. Use a mild liquid laundry detergent and mix it with warm water. Make sure the detergent is well-diluted before applying it to the stained area. Using a soft brush, gently scrub solution onto the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. You can also pre-treat the stain by spraying the stain with a pretreatment solution before washing.
Finally, wash the item in warm water. Choose the appropriate cycle on your washing machine for the type of fabric your jumper is made of. After the wash cycle is complete, inspect the garment to make sure stain has been removed. If not, repeat steps above until stain is completely gone.
With just a few simple steps, you can easily remove even most stubborn ketchup stains from your jumpers. Always remember to begin spot treating the stain as soon as possible and use a pretreatment product if necessary.
