Jewelry cleaning with ketchup begins with identifying the type of metal in the jewelry. Some metals react differently to ketchup and other acids, so knowing the metal type is important. Gold may be more sensitive to acids than some other metals. Any gemstones or enameling must also be taken into account. Once the metal type is identified, begin by selecting right cleaning solution for the job.

One tried-and-true method is to mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Submerge the jewelry in this solution for up to 10 minutes. When the time is up, use a soft cloth to wipe away the ketchup stain. If the stain is still visible, let jewelry soak for another five minutes before wiping it off.

If the stain is especially stubborn, mix equal parts white vinegar and baking soda together into a paste. Apply the paste to stained areas of the jewelry and let it sit for at least 10 minutes. Then, use a soft cloth to gently rub away the ketchup stains. Rinse the jewelry under warm water and dry it with a soft cloth.

When ketchup has been removed, it's important to properly store the jewelry to prevent future staining. Jewellery should be stored in individual containers or bags to keep them from rubbing against each other. Keep the jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
