Before starting the cleaning process, it’s important to pre-treat the stain. Start by blotting the stained area with a clean cloth or paper towel. This helps to remove any excess ketchup from the fabric, making it easier to tackle the stain. You can also mix a few drops of liquid dish soap with one cup of warm water and use this to lightly dab the stain.
Once you’ve pre-treated the stain, it’s time to soak it in cold water. Submerge the jacket (or the specific area where stain is located) in cold water for 10-15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Make sure you use cold water instead of hot – otherwise, this can cause the stain to set into the fabric.
Next, apply some stain remover to the affected area. Make sure that the product is suitable for the fabric in question otherwise you may risk damaging the jacket further. Follow instructions on the label and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping away.
Finally, put the jacket in the washing machine and set it to a normal cycle. Wash as usual, using the temperature and detergent mentioned on the instruction label. It’s important to do this last step – otherwise you may risk causing irreparable damage to the fabric.
With the right approach, cleaning ketchup stains from jackets doesn't have to be a difficult task. Just follow the simple steps outlined above and you’ll have your garment back to its former glory in no time!
