The first thing you want to do is scrape off any ketchup residue that has hardened onto the grate. You can use a wire brush, spatula, or even old toothbrush to get into the small crevices between the grates. Scrape as carefully as possible and try not to damage surface of the grill.
Once all of the ketchup residue has been removed, you’ll want to make a cleaning solution to remove any leftover stain. Mix one part baking soda with three parts warm water and stir until completely combined. Apply the mixture to the stained area and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Once the mixture has had time to work its magic, use a sponge or soft cloth to scrub the stained area. Focus on the areas where the ketchup residue was the heaviest. Once finished, rinse the area with warm water and dry thoroughly.
If necessary, repeat steps two and three until the stain has been completely removed. If this doesn’t work, try using a commercial grill cleaner or degreaser instead.
