Ketchup stains can quickly ruin a nice outfit, but they don’t need to be a lost cause. Follow these three easy steps to make sure you can get those pesky tomato-based stains out of your garter for good.

Step 1: Blot the Stain

Start by using a cloth or paper towel to gently blot stain. Don’t rub it, as this can cause the stain to spread and become even more difficult to remove. Instead, lightly press cloth or paper towel against the stain until it stops absorbing any more liquid.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Garter

Once you’ve blotted as much of ketchup away as you can, you’ll want to pre-treat the garter to help lift any remaining stains. Start by mixing a tablespoon of liquid dish detergent with two cups of warm water. Dip a clean washcloth into the mixture and use it to gently scrub the area of the garter that has the stain. Allow the mixture to sit for about ten minutes, then rinse away thoroughly with cold water.

Step 3: Wash as Usual

After pre-treating the garment, you can go ahead and wash it as you normally would. It’s best to do this as soon as possible so the stain doesn’t have time to set in further. If you can, try washing the garter on its own or with similar colored items of clothing. This will help prevent the stain from transferring to other fabrics.

Once the garter has been washed, simply allow it to air dry. Once it’s finished drying, check the area of garment that had stain to make sure it’s been removed. If not, you may need to repeat the steps again.
