When it comes to removing ketchup stains from down jackets, timing is everything. The longer the stain sets, the more difficult it will be to remove. So, if you have noticed the unsightly stain, act quickly to begin the cleaning process.
Using a blunt knife or similar object, scrape off as much ketchup as possible without pressing too hard onto the fabric. This will help prevent the stain from becoming deeper and easier to remove.
Choose a laundry detergent designed for delicate fabrics, and dilute it with an equal amount of water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and blot the stain until the mixture absorbs ketchup. It is important to use only a small amount of the solution so as not to saturate the fabric.
After blotting the stain, rinse the area with cold water. Put the jacket in the washing machine and wash it on a cool setting. After washing, tumble dry the jacket on a low setting and inspect the fabric for any remaining stains. Repeat the steps if necessary.
