What You'll Need

  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Cold water
  • A sponge or cloth
  • Laundry pre-treatment spray or stain remover (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by carefully blotting the stain with a paper towel or cloth. Do not rub stain, as this can make it spread.
  2. Mix 1 teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in a bowl of cold water. Stir until the ingredients are well blended.
  3. Using a clean cloth or sponge, dab the mixture onto the stained area. Make sure to work the mixture into the fabric and avoid rubbing the stain.
  4. Let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing the cloth or sponge and blotting the area with a dry towel.
  5. If the stain remains, try using a laundry pre-treatment spray or stain remover. Apply product to the stain and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing and air drying.

Additional Tips

  • Always check the care instructions on your dashiki before attempting to clean it.
  • Be sure to test any cleaning products on an inconspicuous area of the fabric to ensure that they will not cause any damage.
  • Be gentle when handling fabric – too much agitation can cause the stain to spread.
