Accidentally get ketchup on your cotton oxford shirt? Don't worry, there's still hope! Getting the ketchup stain out of cotton oxford may seem like a challenge, but it's actually easier than you think. Follow these steps and you'll soon have a fresh and clean shirt.
Start by scraping off the excess ketchup with a butter knife or spoon. Be sure to scrape lightly, as you don't want to further push the ketchup into the fabric.
Create a 1:1 solution of vinegar and cold water and apply it to the ketchup stain using a cloth. Let the vinegar mixture sit on the stain for 5 minutes before moving on to the next step. The acetic acid in the vinegar helps to loosen the ketchup so it will be more easily removed.
Using a clean cloth, apply some detergent to the ketchup stain and let it sit for another 5 minutes. The detergent helps to break down the protein in the ketchup, which makes it easier to remove.
Rinse the ketchup stain with cold water and then blot it dry with a clean cloth. Do not rub the fabric as you blot, as this may cause the ketchup stain to spread.
Fill a sink with cold water and mix in a few drops of dish soap to create a soapy mixture. Soak the ketchup-stained shirt in the mixture for 30 minutes. This will help to further break down the ketchup and loosen it from the fabric.
Wash shirt in washing machine using your normal detergent and the coldest water possible. Set the washer to a delicate cycle as this will be gentler on the fabric.
Hang the shirt outside in the sun until it is completely dry. You can also tumble dry it on a low heat setting if you prefer.
