Getting Started
- As soon as the stain occurs, make sure to gently blot the stain immediately with a clean cloth or paper towel.
- Do not start scrubbing or rubbing the stain as this will set it in permanently.
- If the ketchup was on a solid surface, pick up any large chunks of the ketchup with a spoon before attempting to remove the stain.
Removing the Stain
- Once the excess ketchup has been removed, soak the stained area in cold water for 30 minutes.
- Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid detergent with 2 cups of warm water.
- Apply the detergent solution to the stained area and let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Gently rub the stain with a soft bristled brush to help lift the ketchup off the fabric.
- Soak area in warm water for 15 minutes.
- Rinse the area with cold water.
- Repeat the steps until stain is removed.
Preventing the Stain
To reduce the chances of getting a ketchup stain, avoid eating food that is wet or saucy while wearing your cocktail dress. It is also a good idea to always carry a spot remover such as Tide to Go or OxiClean, just in case an accident does occur.
