Removing ketchup stains from cardigans can be a tricky task but with right know-how, you can restore your clothing item and keep it looking as good as new.

What You Will Need

  • A soft-bristled brush
  • Dish soap or mild laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Clean white cloth

Method 1: Removing Fresh Ketchup Stains

  1. Using a soft-bristled brush, gently remove as much of the ketchup as possible.
  2. Mix dish soap or mild laundry detergent with warm water in a bowl soapy mixture, then dip a clean white cloth into the mixture.
  3. Gently scrub the stain with the damp cloth and the soapy mixture. Take care not to rub the fabric harshly.
  4. Rinse the stained area with cold water. The fabric should be damp, not completely wet.
  5. Lay the garment flat on a towel and allow it to dry completely.

Method 2: Removing Older Ketchup Stains

  1. Mix 1 part white vinegar and 1 part warm water in a bowl, then dip a clean white cloth into the mixture.
  2. Gently scrub the stain with the damp cloth and the vinegar mixture.
  3. Apply baking soda directly onto stain and gently rub into the fabric.
  4. Rinse the stained area with cold water. The fabric should be damp, not completely wet.
  5. Lay the garment flat on a towel and allow it to dry completely.
