The first thing you should do is to scrape off as much of dried ketchup as possible. A spatula or a spoon work well for this. Gently wipe down the fabric with a cloth dampened with cold water. Be sure to blot the stained area and never scrub it—you don't want to push the stain further into the fabric.
If the stain persists after scraping and blotting, then the next step is to create a paste from a mild detergent and cold water. Apply the paste directly to stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then gently rub the paste into the fabric using a damp clothe. Rinse the area with cold water and if necessary, you can then rinse it again with distilled white vinegar. Let clothing air dry.
For tougher stains, you can make a restoration mixture of one tablespoon of ammonia, one tablespoon of Dawn dish soap, and two cups of lukewarm water. Soak the stained area for about 15 minutes and rinse it well. To guarantee that the stain is removed completely, let your clothing air dry and then inspect the results.
Cleaning ketchup stains from your fabrics doesn't have to be an overwhelming task. With these simple steps, you can confidently keep your Ann Taylor pieces looking their best.
