What You'll Need

  • Dish soap
  • Warm water
  • White cloth
  • Spoon
  • Mild laundry detergent

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Blot the affected area of abaya using a white cloth. Don't rub material as it could spread the stain further.
  2. Mix 1 teaspoon of dish soap in one cup of warm water.
  3. Dip the white cloth in the solution and dab at stained area, working the soap and water into the fabric.
  4. Using the back of a spoon, gently scrape away any excess ketchup from the abaya. Do not apply too much force or you could damage the fabric.
  5. Rinse the abaya with clean warm water and pat it dry with a towel.
  6. Apply a mild laundry detergent to the stained area and let it sit for 20 minutes. During this time, the detergent will help to loosen the ketchup stain from the fabric.
  7. Rinse the abaya with clean cold water and repeat Steps 1-6 if needed.

Additional Tips

  • Where possible, try to avoid wearing your abaya when eating messy foods.
  • If the stain is particularly stubborn, you can soak your abaya in a bucket of cold water for up to three hours before repeating Steps 1-6.
