The good news is that getting rid of insect repellent stains is fairly easy. With just a few common cleaning ingredients, you can restore your t-shirt and make it look as good as new.

Step 1: Rinse Clothes

If possible, rinse the clothes while they are still wet and the stain is fresh. This will help remove some of the excess insect repellent before it has a chance to settle into the fabric.

Step 2: Make a Cleaning Solution

Create a cleaning solution by mixing together one tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent and two cups of cold water. If you have a tank top or other item with severe staining, try adding a teaspoon of white vinegar to the solution.

Step 3: Apply Cleaning Solution

Using a clean cloth or sponge, apply the cleaning solution directly to stain. Work solution into the fabric, making sure to use gentle but firm circular motions. Be sure to cover entire stained area.

Step 4: Let It Soak

Once the cleaning solution has been applied, let it sit for 10-15 minutes. This will give the detergent and vinegar a chance to break down the stain and make it easier to remove.

Step 5: Rinse & Dry

After fabric has soaked, rinse off remaining solution with cold water. Hang it up to dry and check to see if the stain has been removed. If not, repeat steps 2-5 until the stain is gone.
