What You Will Need

Before tackling those pesky insect repellent stains, make sure you've got the following items:

  • Laundry detergent
  • Water
  • A clean cloth
  • Spatula or plastic spoon

Removing the Stain

  1. Scrape off any excess insect repellent using a spatula or plastic spoon.
  2. Use a cloth and some water to further clean the area.
  3. Apply a small amount of laundry detergent to the stained area.
  4. Lightly scrub the stain with a cloth. Be sure not to rub too hard, as this could damage fabric.
  5. Rinse the area with fresh water.
  6. Allow the garment to air dry.

Preventing Future Stains

To prevent future stains, try to avoid getting insect repellent on traditional clothing altogether. When spraying insect repellent, be sure to apply it to exposed skin rather than your clothing. On top of that, wearing long-sleeved tops and pants as well as treated gear can help keep you bug-free while avoiding potential stains.
