The best way to remove an insect repellent stain from your tie is to soak it in an enzyme laundry solution. To make the solution, mix equal parts water and enzyme laundry detergent, such as OxiClean. If you don't have enzyme laundry detergent, you can also use a gentle dish soap.
Once you've made the solution, submerge your tie in it for at least 30 minutes. This will help break down substance and loosen the stain. Once the time is up, take the tie out of the solution and rinse it off with cold water.
If the stain is still present, grab a stain remover or pre-treatment and apply it directly to the stained area. Use a brush or cloth to gently rub the product into the fabric; this will help penetrate the stain and remove it.
After you've applied the product, let it sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. If stain is still there, repeat this step as needed until the stain is gone.
Once stain is gone, throw your tie in the wash with like colors. Use a mild detergent and a warm water setting. Once the cycle is finished, hang your tie up to air dry.
And that's it! With these three simple steps, you can remove insect repellent stains from your tie and make it look as good as new.
