What You’ll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Cold water
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Soft cloths or paper towels

Instructions

  1. Mix 1/2 cup white vinegar into 1/2 gallon cold water.
  2. Using a soft cloth (which can be a paper towel if necessary), dip cloth in the vinegar-water solution and dab the stained area of the tartan.
  3. Once the stain is dampened, use a little liquid dish soap on the cloth and gently scrub the stained area.
  4. Rinse the area with a fresh cloth dipped in cold water. Blot dry with a clean cloth or air-dry.

Tips For Preventing Insect Repellent Stains on Tartan

  • Avoid spraying insect repellent directly on your tartan clothing or other fabrics.
  • If possible, spray insect repellent onto your skin and not on your clothes.
  • Spray insect repellent onto a cloth or a piece of paper towel first and then rub it onto your skin.
