When the days start to get warmer and the bugs start to appear, it probably means one thing: time to break out your insect repellent. You may have had a few successes in chasing away pests during a summer outing, but there’s one thing you didn’t plan for — insect repellent stains on your favorite sweatshirt!

Don’t let it get you down though. Removing insect repellent stains from your clothing is not as hard as it might sound! Here are some steps to follow to help you get those pesky stains off your clothing fast.

Removing the Stain

The first step is to always act quickly before the stain has time to set. Gently scrape off any excess insect repellent with a dull knife or a spoon, making sure not to press too hard and damage your fabric.

Once the excess is removed, wet the affected area with cold water. If stain is still visible, you'll need to apply some spot treatment.

Spot Treatment

Start by mixing a few drops of mild liquid detergent with one tablespoon of white vinegar and one cup of warm water. Then, using a clean cloth or sponge, gently dab the mixture onto the stain in a circular motion until the stain fades.

If the stain persists, try applying more of the mixture, being careful not to rub the fabric together. Once done, rinse the area with cold water before tossing the garment into wash.

Tackle Tough Stains

For tougher stains, mix two tablespoons each of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide with a few drops of mild liquid detergent until it forms a paste. Use the same method as before, gently rubbing the paste onto the stain in a circular motion.

Again, make sure to rinse the area thoroughly with cold water and you should be all set. Just remember to throw it in the wash to get rid of any leftover residue!

Keep Your Clothes Free From Stains

By following these tips, you should be able to get rid of any insect repellent stains on your clothing. With a bit of practice, you’ll be able to keep your clothes free from stains and looking good all season long. Good luck!
