What You'll Need

  • White Vinegar
  • Clean Rags
  • Dish Soap
  • Borax
  • A Brush or Toothbrush
  • Stain Remover (Optional)

Step One: Blot Stain

The first thing to do when cleaning insect repellent stains from sweatpants is to blot up as much of the liquid with a clean cloth or paper towels. Doing this right away is important, because if the stain has time to set it will be even harder to remove.

Step Two: Mix Vinegar Solution

Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl. Next, dip a clean rag in the solution and then blot the stain.

Step Three: Add Dish Soap and Borax

If the vinegar didn't work, it's time to move onto the next step. Make a paste by mixing equal parts dish soap and borax, then apply the paste to the stain. Using a brush or toothbrush, gently rub the paste into the stain and let it sit for a few minutes.

Step Four: Rinse and Repeat

Rinse the area with cool water, and repeat steps above until the stain is gone. If stain still won't come out, try using a store-bought stain remover and repeating the steps once more.

Conclusion

It can take a bit of work, but it is possible to remove stubborn insect repellent stains from sweatpants. Next time you have an accident, follow the steps outlined above and you should be able to bring your sweatpants back to their original condition.
