Remove Fresh Stains

For recent insect repellent stains on silk satin, first blot up as much of the excess as possible with a dry cloth. Next, mix 1 quart of warm water with 1 teaspoon of mild detergent in a shallow bowl and stir until it's sudsy. Dip a clean white cloth into the sudsy mixture and apply to the stained area in an outward motion.

Continue to gently rub the stain until it begins to fade. Rinse stained area with warm water and then lay the fabric flat to air dry.

Tackle Persistent Stains

If the insect repellent stain still persists after removing fresh one, rinse the fabric with cold water. Mix 1 tablespoon of rubbing alcohol with 2 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid and 1 quart of warm water in a bowl and stir until sudsy. Apply the mixture to the stain with a clean white cloth and rub in an outward motion until the stain begins to fade.

Alternatively, mix 1 tablespoon of ammonia with 2 tablespoons of mild detergent and 1 quart of warm water in a bowl. Apply mixture to the stained area with a clean cloth, gentle rubbing outward in a circular motion until the stain begins to disappear. Rinse fabric with cold water and lay it flat to dry.
