After a long day outdoors in summer, you might want to freshen up with an insect repellent spray. But, after you're done, some of it may remain on your silk garments and cause stains. Don't worry though - there are a few easy steps you can take to get rid of those pesky stains!

Pre-treating the Stain

Before attempting to remove the stain, it’s important to pre-treat the fabric. Start by lightly spraying the stained area with cold water. Then dab the area with a damp cloth or sponge. This will help to loosen the stain and make it easier to remove.

Using Soap and Water

Once you’ve pre-treated the fabric, it’s time to move on to the actual stain removal process. Begin by mixing a few drops of mild dish soap into a bowl of cool water. Always use a mild soap, as harsh detergents can damage delicate fibers in silk fabric. Dip a soft cloth or sponge into the soapy water, and gently dab at the stained area. Rinse the cloth out in cool water, and repeat until the stain has been completely removed. Once you’ve finished, rinse the garment in fresh cool water to remove any remaining soap.

Using Vinegar and Water

If the above method doesn’t work to remove the stain, you can also try using a mixture of vinegar and water. Mix one part white vinegar and two parts water in a bowl. Dip a soft cloth or sponge in the mixture, and gently dab the stained area. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes, then rinse the garment in cool water. Repeat if necessary until the stain has been removed.

Using Rubbing Alcohol and Water

Another option is to mix rubbing alcohol and water together in equal parts. Dip a soft cloth or sponge in the mixture, and dab the stained area. Be careful not to rub the fabric too much, as this could damage the delicate fibers. Allow the mixture to sit for 5-10 minutes, then rinse garment in cool water. Repeat if necessary until the stain has been removed.

Conclusion

Removing an insect repellent stain from silk fabric doesn’t have to be a daunting task. Just follow the simple steps outlined above and you should be able to easily remove the stain without damaging the fabric.
