The first step to removing insect repellent stains from your shorts is to wash the shorts with cold water immediately. Gently dab (not rub) area of the stain with a clean washcloth or cotton ball soaked in a solution of warm water and gentle laundry detergent. This should help loosen up any dirt or oils that are part of the stain.

Once the fabric has been soaked, use a soft brush to gently scrub the stain in a circular motion. Make sure that the brush is not too rough, as it can damage the fabric and ruin the shorts.

In addition to scrubbing the area with a brush, one can also use a solution of equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Soak a washcloth or cotton ball in the solution and then blot the area with the cloth. It’s important to keep the cloth from completely soaking fabric, as this could damage it.

After blotting the area with the solution, rinse the shorts with cold water to remove any remaining residue. Once the shorts are rinsed, allow them to air-dry. This will ensure that the stain does not set deeper into the fabric.

If the stain is still visible after you have washed and dried the shorts, you can try using a pre-treatment product specifically designed for insect repellent stains. This can be found at most stores that carry laundry detergents and other cleaning products. Simply follow the instructions on product and apply it directly to the stain.

In most cases, these steps should be able to easily remove stubborn insect repellent stains from your shorts. However, some stains may prove to be too stubborn and may require a professional dry cleaner. If the stain cannot be removed with steps listed above, take your shorts to a dry cleaner and they should be able to help.
