- Old toothbrush
- Clean cloths for drying
Steps for Removing Insect Repellent Stains
- Gently brush away any excess insect repellent from fabric. Make sure to be gentle so as not to damage the fabric.
- Mix together one part liquid detergent and two parts water in a bowl. Soak the stained area in the mixture for 30 minutes.
- Rinse the stained area with cold water. If the stain persists, mix together one part white vinegar and two parts water and apply directly to the stained area.
- Allow vinegar mixture to sit on stained area for 30 minutes. Use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the area.
- Rinse off the vinegar mixture with cold water. Lay dress flat to air dry.
Tips
- Be sure to use cold water when rinsing the dress. Hot water may actually set the stain, making it more difficult to remove.
- If the stain doesn't come out on the first try, don't worry. You can repeat the process until the stain has been completely removed.
- For tougher stains, you may need to take dress to a professional cleaner. It's worth it to save your favorite shift dress!
