Before you start cleaning the stain, gather the supplies you’ll need. This includes a clean cloth, cold water, dish soap, an absorbent sponge, and a dry-cleaning solvent meant for leather.
Use a damp cloth to scrub a small amount of mild dish soap into the stain. Apply it gently so you don’t damage material. Once you’ve applied the detergent, rinse the area with cold water.
Dab a small amount of the dry-cleaning solvent to an inconspicuous area on shearling. Let it sit for a few minutes and then check it. If the fabric holds up, you can use the solvent on the stain. If not, discontinue use.
Using an absorbent sponge, blot the stain with the solvent. Be sure to keep the area damp and continue cleaning until the stain is gone. Once you’re done, rinse the area with cold water.
Leave the shearling in a warm, dry spot to air dry. Once it’s completely dry, follow up with a leather conditioner to hydrate the material and restore its original look. And that’s it—you’re done!
