As with any stain, it's best to treat insect repellent spots as soon as possible. Grab a damp cloth or paper towel and gently blot affected area. Do not rub fabric together, as this could spread the stain further.
Choose a laundry detergent or soap specifically designed for greasy or oily stains. Gently massage or rub the pre-treatment into the stained fabric, working in a circular motion and taking care not to scrub too hard. Leave pre-treat on the fabric for a few minutes before washing.
Place the bug spray stained item in the washing machine, along with your regular laundry detergent. Set temperature to hot, as this will help remove oil from the fabric more effectively. Avoid using bleach or any other harsh chemicals, as these may set the stain and make it more difficult to remove.
Once the cycle is complete, hang the item to air dry away from direct sunlight. This will help prevent any further fading or discoloration of fabric.
