The first step is to identify the type of fabric your raincoat is made out of. Different fabrics require different methods of stain removal, and knowing the type of fabric will help you determine the best way to go about getting rid of the stains. If the fabric is delicate, it’s best to be extra cautious when attempting to remove the stain.

Next, you need to determine what type of insect repellent was used. Many repellents are oil-based, which can be difficult to remove from certain fabrics. If this is the case, it’s best to apply a stain remover specifically designed for oil-based stains.

If you happen to have a laundry detergent (like Tide, or one with enzymes) with you, or if you are at home, this can also be used to help remove stain. Apply a quarter-sized amount of detergent directly onto the stain, then use a toothbrush to gently scrub the stain. Rinse with cold water and repeat the process until all of the stain is removed.

You can also use a mixture of vinegar and baking soda as an alternative method. Simply mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar with 2 tablespoons of baking soda, then apply the mixture to the stained area and use a brush to gently scrub stain. Be sure to rinse the area with cold water afterwards. Use this method for smaller, more delicate fabrics.

For tough, deep-set stains, try treating the stain with bleach. Add 1/4 cup of household bleach to 1-quart of water and apply solution directly to the stained area. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes, and then launder garment as usual.

Finally, always read and follow the instructions on the care label of your raincoat. This will ensure that you don’t damage the fabric by using any of these methods.

By following the steps above, you will be able to easily and effectively remove those pesky insect repellent stains from your raincoat!
