Nobody likes when their prized crossbody bag or shoulder tote becomes stained by accidental spills or scratches. You might think that a bug repellent stain on your purse is too difficult to clean, but the truth is that with just a few simple steps, you can be sure your purse will look good as new!

How to Clean Insect Repellent Stains from Purses

The first step is to figure out what type of material your purse is made of. This will determine which method is best for cleaning the stain. If your purse is made of leather, try using a damp cloth with a bit of mild soap. Rub the affected area in a circular motion and work the soap into material. Then use a dry cloth to dab away the excess soap.

For fabric purses, you'll want to take a different approach. Start by scraping away any excess insect repellent from the surface. Then mix a solution of one cup of warm water and half a teaspoon of mild dish soap. Test the solution on an unpainted area of the purse, to make sure it won't damage the material or color. Next, dip a soft brush in the soapy solution and scrub gently at the stained area. Rinse with cold water and repeat if needed.

Try to avoid using any abrasive substances or steam cleaners on the purse, as this can damage material and strip away the color.
