Start by filling a sink with warm water and adding a few drops of laundry detergent to it. Soak the stained area of the pants in the water for 10-15 minutes so that the liquid has time to break down insect repellent.
Afterwards, use a soft cleaning brush to scrub area gently. Once you are satisfied with result, rinse the area with cold water and let the pants hang dry before wearing them again.
Ammonia is an effective agent for dissolving insect repellent stains, but it can damage certain types of fabrics if used in strong concentrations. For this reason, it’s important to dilute the ammonia with baking soda before using it on the stain.
Mix one part ammonia with two parts baking soda and stir until a paste is formed. Rub paste into the stained area and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Afterwards, rinse the area with cold water and let the pants air dry before wearing them again.
Vinegar and salt are two powerful ingredients that can be used to lift insect repellent stains. Mix one part vinegar with two parts salt and stir until a paste is formed. Rub this paste onto the affected area and let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
Once paste has had ample time to dissolve the stain, rinse the area with cold water and let pants air dry before wearing them again.
